Carlfritz Nicolay

Carlfritz Nicolay (born April 4, 1922 in Cochem ; † September 29, 1997 there ) was a German painter and graphic artist .

life and career

Carlfritz Nicolay first completed a commercial apprenticeship in 1936. In 1940 he began studying at the university in Darmstadt . From 1941 to 1948 there was an interruption due to the Second World War . In 1948 he returned from captivity . From 1948 to 1950 he studied at the Rhineland-Palatinate State Art School in Mainz , which he completed with the state examination for free and applied graphics. Since then he has been a freelance artist (painter and graphic artist) in Cochem.

Numerous exhibitions at home and abroad followed. From 1954 he took part in the annual form + color exhibition in Koblenz. Also from 1954 he took part in the joint exhibition of the EVBK (European Association of Visual Artists) in Prüm.

From 1965 to 1977 Carlfritz Nicolay was a member of the board (general manager) of the National Association of Visual Artists. In 1973 he took part in the Rhineland-Palatinate State Art Exhibition in Koblenz . He was a long-time member of the Cochem city ​​council , honorary chancellor of the vigilante group , of which he was a co-founder after the war, and co-founder of the Eintracht gymnastics club in 1862, which he chaired for a long time. From 1972 to 1993 he ran the Turngau Mosel and represented its interests at the Central Rhine Gymnastics Association . In 1997 Carlfritz Nicolay died at the age of 75 in his hometown of Cochem.

On April 4, 1998, his birthday, part of the Brückenstraße in Cochem was renamed “Carlfritz-Nicolay-Platz” in his memory, with the participation of the vigilante groups.
