Carl Arendt (architect)
Johann Carl Arendt or Johann Karl Arendt or Charles Arendt (born March 15, 1825 in Vianden ; † November 21, 1910 ) was a Luxembourgish architect and writer.
Life
Johann Carl Arendt was a pupil of Zwirner . He studied in Brussels and Munich until 1849 .
In 1850 he became a district architect in Grevenmacher , in 1858 he became a state architect. He held this position until his retirement in 1898. Arendt received numerous honors. Among other things, he was an officer at the French Academy.
buildings
Arendt designed or enlarged 78 church buildings, in addition he created around 130 secular buildings. He also restored numerous cultural monuments, including the palace chapel in his native city. He published about 150 works of historical and archaeological content. In his Luxembourg portrait gallery , he wanted to present all the important Luxembourgers in chronological order up to his own lifetime.
His works include:
- Parish Church of St. Peter : in Ehrang , built from 1872 to 1875
- St. Martin in Fell : The neo-Gothic church of St. Martin in Fell is, like other Arendt buildings, a cultural monument. The church was designed between 1865 and 1867.
- St. Michael : the church of St. Michael in Heidenburg in the Bernkastel-Wittlich district was built from 1865 to 1867.
- St. Dionysius : the neo-Romanesque church of St. Dionysius was built in 1886/87 in Lissendorf .
