Carl August Fischer (Economist)

Carl August Fischer (born June 18, 1895 in Witten (Ruhr); † August 25, 1966 there ) was a German economist and professor of economic policy at the University of Hamburg and the Albertus University of Königsberg .

Life and work

Fischer received his doctorate in 1921 on the bankruptcy of Karl Diehl in Freiburg im Breisgau . He worked with the financial politician of the Center Party Paul Beusch on monetary issues. In 1928, after completing his habilitation with Götz Briefs, he became a private lecturer at the TH Berlin .

Fischer was a member of the DNVP from 1919 to 1921 , and in 1921 he joined the Deutschvölkischer Schutz- und Trutzbund and the Consul organization . In 1932 he became a member of the NSDAP ; since 1933 he was also a member of the SA . In November 1933 he signed the declaration of professors at German universities and colleges about Adolf Hitler .

From 1933 to 1934 he was a regular associate professor at the University of Hamburg, benefiting from Eduard Heimann's dismissal . He was then from 1934 to 1937 full professor for law and political science at the Albertus University in Königsberg . In 1937 he was sentenced to 8 months in prison for his homosexuality , released from civil service and expelled from the NSDAP. After the Second World War , he became politically active in the FDP , for which he ran unsuccessfully in the 1961 federal election on the North Rhine-Westphalian state list.
