Carl August Hugo Burkhardt

Carl August Hugo Burkhardt (* June 6, 1830 in Jena ; † May 9, 1910 ibid) was a German historian, archivist and long-time director of the Grand Ducal State Archives in Weimar .

Life

After studying history and philosophy in Jena and Berlin , he accepted the position of second curator at the Germanic National Museum in Nuremberg . In 1859 he moved to the Secret Court and State Archives in Weimar as archivist. As Grand Ducal Archives Director, he took over the management of the Ernestine General Archives in 1859 and the management of the Grand Ducal State Archives in 1862, and held these functions until his retirement in 1907.

In addition to his work on the Ernestine duchies , the Saxon and Thuringian regional history, he was also active as a Goethe researcher .
