Carl August Brekelbaum , also Karl , (born November 7, 1863 in Hamburg ; †  September 26, 1956 there ) was a German architect , building contractor and politician ( DNVP ).

Life and work

Carl Brekelbaum was born on November 7th, 1863 as the son of a building contractor in Hamburg. After attending the state high school in his hometown, he completed an apprenticeship as a bricklayer. He then attended the building trade school in Eckernförde and the Technical University (Berlin-) Charlottenburg for four semesters . He did his military service as a one-year volunteer with the 14th Jäger Battalion. In the following years he worked in architectural offices in Berlin , Vienna and Munich . In 1890 he joined his father's construction business as an architect and master bricklayer, which he took over as sole director in 1899.

During the time of the Weimar Republic , Brekelbaum was an assessor at the arbitration tribunal for workers' insurance and at the examination committee of the Hamburg building trade school. In addition, he was a board member of the Hamburg building trade guild. Carl Brekelbaum died in Hamburg on September 26, 1956.

Brekelbaum had been a member of the Hamburg deputation for trade, shipping and trade since 1907, and later also of the building deputation. After the November Revolution , he joined the German National People's Party (DNVP) and was a member of the Hamburg Parliament from 1921 to 1924 . In the Reichstag elections in May 1924 , he was elected to the German Reichstag , to which he belonged until May 1928. In parliament he represented constituency 34 (Hamburg).
