Carl Bruno Bloemertz (born May 21, 1919 in Linnich near Aachen, † October 29, 2007 in Lindberg near Zwiesel) was a German painter , art patron, gallery owner and surgeon . As a painter he signed with the abbreviation CBB . He lived in Wuppertal for a long time and also worked there as a trauma surgeon. The CBB gallery was also located in his house on Obere Lichtenplatzer Strasse .

Career

He prematurely finished his studies of music (violin, viola, piano, theory, music history) in Cologne and Berlin in order to study medicine in Halle and Leipzig (doctorate in 1945). He completed his artistic training as a painter and graphic artist from 1961 to 1969 with Herm Dienz (Bonn) and Anton Gerharz (Mourlot, Paris). In addition to his medical work, he worked as a freelance artist. Among other things, he was a member of the Association of Painting Doctors in Germany

Artistic creation

His fields of work included abstract painting , screen printing , semigraphy , etching , watercolor , drawings , covers, also using computer graphics, for books, discs, and CDs. In his works, abstract, surreal and representational elements are fused together. The "semigraphy" technique, half oil and half screen printing, which he developed and repeatedly renewed in many facets, was one of his trademarks. Representations and reviews in magazines, art magazines, anthologies, books, television films and radio programs paid tribute to his work. The works from the series "Survival Landscapes" are particularly well known.

Carl Bruno Bloemertz has had over 860 solo and group exhibitions worldwide, including in Germany, Italy, France, Austria, Greece, Romania, Switzerland, New York (USA), Washington (USA), Palm Beach (USA) and Boca Raton ( UNITED STATES). He is represented by serigraphy portfolios in editions in France, Switzerland, Austria and Germany. His work can be found in private collections and museums.

Honors

In recognition of his medical, scientific, artistic and literary work and his life's achievements as a painter and artist, Carl Bruno Bloemertz received the Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1984 and the First Class Cross of Merit of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1996. In addition, he was Professor of Cultural Achievement. Furthermore, were dedicated works to him, especially the Czech composer and violinist Adolf Gebauer : "String Quartet CBB" with the motivic initials of the painter, with five sets of five oil paintings from the studio of CBB "concert at the lake", "Avignon" "Eating and being eaten", "Garden of Eden" and "Hurrican", which was premiered in 1994 by the world-famous Kocian Quartet in Prague. In 1997 a CD was released with Gebauer compositions, which, in addition to other Gebauer compositions, also contains the "CBB String Quartet". His picture "Hour of the Violin" was chosen for the cover of this CD.

Personal

Carl Bruno Bloemertz was married twice and had 5 children. He lived in Bonn-Beuel with his first wife and two children, and in Wuppertal with his second wife and their three children . He spent his old age in Neuss and Lindberg near Zwiesel .
