Carl Ferdinand Fiedler

Carl Ferdinand Fiedler (born June 17, 1799 in Baruth ; † September 8, 1844 in Döbrichau ) was a German Protestant theologian and educator .

Life

Born as the son of the Baruther city school rector, after attending this school he graduated from the grammar school in Lübben in 1814 and then from the Collegium Carolinum Braunschweig . From 1819 to 1823 he studied theology in Leipzig , where he also received his doctorate . After 1826 Fiedler worked as a private teacher in Retzau / Anhalt and Bitterfeld and in 1828 as administrative assistant to the superintendent in Graefenhainichen . Here he married Rahel Friederike Streubel. In 1829 Fiedler was transferred to Döbrichau as pastor , where he worked until 1844.

He was the founder of the "Elbwart" insurance association for pastors and teachers, as an institution for mutual help in emergencies and also long-term chairman of the "Missions-Hilfsverein an Elbe und Elster". As a schoolboy, Fiedler made a name for himself as a journalist. From 1832 he was part of the editorial team for the “Charitable Articles” in the “Torgauer Kreisblatt”.

  • Biblical history book for community and rural schools. 1837. (Standard work for religious instruction with 74 editions up to 1908!)
