Carl Frederik Sørensen (born February 8, 1818 in Besser on Samsø , † January 24, 1879 in Copenhagen ) was a Danish marine painter .

life and work

From 1834 Sørensen was a student at the Royal Danish Academy of Art in Copenhagen and from 1845 a private student with Professor Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg (perspective drawing). The young painter immersed himself in nature studies and also traveled to Italy to complete his training. During this time he painted some Venetian motifs. From 1866 the artist stayed at the academy in Stockholm , from 1874 he is recorded in Iceland . In between he traveled to Italy again and again. Sørensen limited himself almost exclusively to maritime motifs in his oeuvre .

Many of his works can be found in state museums in Scandinavia , for example the State Art Museum in Copenhagen or the Swedish National Museum in Stockholm. Many of the artist's works are privately owned. At art auctions - also in German-speaking countries - his works appear again and again and can also be acquired by private art lovers in this way.
