Carl Friedrich Müller (veterinarian)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Carl Friedrich Müller (born July 3, 1825 in Berlin ; † March 6, 1901 there ) was a German veterinarian and university professor .

Life

Carl Friedrich Wilhelm Müller was born in Berlin and began studying at the Royal Prussian School of Veterinary Medicine in his hometown in 1841 - i.e. at the age of 16 - as a civil student (in contrast to the military student) . In 1845 he completed the exam as a so-called Veterinarian 1st class with "very good". He then practiced for two years in Pomerania , after passing his exams, worked as a district veterinarian in the provinces of East Prussia and Posen from 1847 to 1859 and returned to Berlin. Here he was initially employed as a tutor, from 1862 as a regular teacher and finally in 1870 as a successor to Gurlt (1794–1882) as a professor at the veterinary school, from June 1887 at the Royal Prussian Veterinary College. He retired in 1896 and died in 1901. Between 1859 and 1896 he lived - like other colleagues - with his family on the premises at L (o) uisenstraße 56 ( Berlin-Mitte district, post office district NW). Reinhold Schmaltz became his successor as professor of anatomy .

Act

As a "regular teacher", Müller had to represent the subjects of exterior, stud studies, dietetics (also in the sense of hygiene) and clinical demonstrations. As a professor, he taught the main subject anatomy (without histology / tissue science) as well as physiology, zoology and botany. The "Anatomical Theater" (a building by Carl Gotthard Langhans from the years 1789/90) was available for the sections, and in 1874 it received an extension for autopsies and pathological studies.

In addition, Müller published new editions of standard works on the anatomy and physiology of important domestic animals and compiled the first suitable cattle disease statistics for Prussia. For reasons of space, he had to downsize the collection of wet and dry specimens and skeletons that Gurlt had begun, but was able to add more up-to-date specimens.
