Carl Graham Fisher
Carl Graham Fisher (born January 12, 1874 in Greensburg , Indiana , † July 15, 1939 in Miami Beach , Florida ) was an American entrepreneur .
Despite his strong astigmatism , he apparently became a tireless pioneer and proponent of the automotive and racing industries. He contributed significantly to the development and design of the Lincoln Highway .
In the years from 1920 to 1925 he began to transform Miami Beach, until then a mangrove swamp , into a vacation paradise. He tried the same in Montauk at the tip of Long Islands ( New York ) to transform it into a “Miami Beach of the North”. But in 1926 a hurricane destroyed everything built in Miami Beach and in 1932 Fisher went bankrupt. In 1938 he initiated the establishment of the Caribbean Club on Key Largo , but did not live to see it open.
