Key Largo is a census-designated place (CDP, a settlement area defined for statistical purposes) in Monroe County in the US state of Florida with 10,433 inhabitants (as of 2010).

The CDP Key Largo is also an island that belongs to the Florida Keys . It is located on the Overseas Highway ( US 1 , SR 5 ) and is approximately 145 km from Key West and 80 km from Miami .
history
Some scenes from the 1948 film Gangster in Key Largo, starring Edward G. Robinson and Humphrey Bogart , were shot at the Caribbean Club . Humphrey Bogart fans can also admire the original boat from the film African Queen in Key Largo . North of the city are John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park and Dagny Johnson Key Largo Hammock Botanical State Park .
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the then 10,433 inhabitants were distributed over 8,459 households. The population density was 331.2 inh / km². 93.0% of the population identified themselves as whites , 2.3% as African American , 0.5% as Indians and 0.8% as Asian Americans . 1.5% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.8% to several ethnic groups. 23.7% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010, children under the age of 18 lived in 22.0% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 30.0% of all households. 59.2% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.20 and the average family size was 2.74.
18.4% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 19.3% were 20 to 39 years old, 35.5% were 40 to 59 years old, and 26.8% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 48 years. 51.9% of the population were male and 48.1% were female.
The median annual income was $ 51,798, with 11.9% of the population living below the poverty line.
In 2000, 79.38% of the population spoke English as their first language, 17.97% spoke Spanish and 2.65% spoke another language.
