Carl Hollweg

Friedrich Ludwig Carl Hollweg (born December 12, 1867 in Falkenberg , † December 23, 1932 in Bremen ) was a German vice admiral.

Life

He was a son of the chief forester Ludwig Hollweg and of Margarethe geb. Straw. Due to his father's change of job, Hollweg attended high schools in Stettin , Frankfurt , Potsdam and Bromberg . In 1895, so very late, he entered the navy, received basic training on the training ship " Niobe ", then attended the naval school, followed by various special courses and from 1897 to 1898 the naval academy . Hollweg completed his practical training on frequently changing ships. During this time he married the German-Colombian Carlota Wilhelmine Hollmann (1877–1951) in 1897; in this marriage two sons and a daughter were born. In 1898 Hollweg was appointed to the Reichsmarineamt , where he worked until 1901. Here he served as a lieutenant captain . a. as an employee of Admiral Alfred von Tirpitz , on whose behalf he also wrote a brochure about a future war between Germany and Great Britain. This was followed by employment in various naval offices in 1903. From 1909 to 1912 he served, with the rank of sea captain, as head of the intelligence office in the Reichsmarineamt. In between these missions, however, ship commands were repeatedly given. From 1915, during the First World War , Hollweg was again in the Reichsmarineamt until 1917. In the last year he was appointed chief shipyard director of the Imperial Shipyard Danzig . As early as 1918, however, he was brought back to the Reichsmarineamt, where he remained until 1919. Since no longer needed, there was no longer a German navy, he was honorably discharged from the navy that year with the character of a vice admiral . Hollweg then chose Bremen as his retirement home.

Hollweg was the author of several books on his profession.
