Carl Jakob Bachem

Carl Jakob Bachem (born January 20, 1938 in Bonn - Beuel ) is a local researcher from Bonn .

Live and act

After graduating from high school, Bachem studied political and social sciences as well as history in Bonn, Cologne and Freiburg and graduated with a degree in economics (Bonn). From 1964 until his retirement in 2002 he worked as an association managing director in the economy, since 1974 as a managing presidential member of the Federal Association of the German Soft Drinks Industry.

Bachem was involved in the voluntary preservation of history and monuments in the city of Bonn at an early stage, with a focus on the Bonn-Beuel district. His interest is directed towards familiarizing the citizens with their history and its visible signs, the monuments, and making them part of their identity. He pursues this goal not only as a sought-after specialist speaker, but also as the author of numerous publications, especially on the history of Beuel and its districts.

As the second chairman of the home and history association Beuel a. In 1982 he was co-initiator of the Beuel local history museum . Since 1980 he has been a member of the board of directors of the Monument and History Association Bonn-Rechtsrheinisch eV , founded in 1975 to save the late baroque Mehlem'schen house , and has been chairman since 1993. In this role he operated a. a. the establishment of two historical series of publications by the association as well as the preservation of monuments u. a. the Mayor Stroof House, the reconstruction of the Vilicher Stiftstorbogen, the erection of the Roman monument in Schwarzrheindorf and the safeguarding of a whole series of other architectural and ground monuments, including the industrial monuments jute mill and cement factory (today Bonner Bogen ). In 2013 he succeeded in creating the history trail "Brown coal + alum on the Ennert-Hardt ".

Bachem is co-founder and director of the museum memorial site Bürgermeister-Stroof-Haus , the historical research, education and meeting place in Bonn on the right bank of the Rhine, which he has been responsible for since then.

Furthermore, he has been chairman of the working group of Bonn history associations since 1986 (with an interruption from 1995 to 2008). In addition, he has been a member of both the monument committee of the City Council of Bonn and the municipal landscape advisory board (now "nature conservation advisory board").

Bachem is a member of the Scientific Catholic Student Union Unitas (Unitas-Salia Bonn, Unitas Freiburg) and the German Lions (Lions Club Bonn).
