The association was founded in 1975 under the name Verein Haus Mehlem eV in order to preserve the baroque Palais Haus Mehlem , which is threatened with demolition . The club's logo refers to this building. The founding chairman was Ruth Hieronymi . Another founding member was Heinrich Neu . Carl Jakob Bachem has been running the association, to which more than 300 members belong, since 1995 .

The association was often involved in the preservation of historical buildings, the restoration and erection of monuments and crossroads (e.g. in Geislar and Holtorf ) and the preservation of the historic Beuels cemeteries. In addition, suggestions were made to supplement (place under protection) the municipal list of “Protected architectural and ground monuments”. The activities of the association included u. a. the structure and description of a two-meter high fragmentation protection cell (one-man bunker) from the Second World War , which was buried in the context of a quarry filling around 1975 on the Finkenberg . A statue of Julius Caesar from the time of the construction of the former Bonn-Beueler Rheinbrücke (today Kennedybrücke ) around 1900, which was damaged in the war and believed to be lost, called a “Roman monument”, was given by the association in 1989 as a gift for the 2000th anniversary of Bonn and Beuel erected on the Rhine dam near Gensem / Schwarzrheindorf .

In 2000, an archway of the St. Adelheidis monastery in Vilich was rebuilt from 1616 and the early baroque entrance to the monastery. In 2007 the association set up the monumental sculpture "AKKORD 1" by Reinhard Puch on the Finkenberg. The association was also able to prevent the demolition of the halls of the former Beuel jute spinning mill planned by the city . In 2009 the association took over the sponsorship of the previously renovated Mayor Stroof House . Since then, there has been a museum on regional history that he set up and maintained, as well as an extensive regional history library with literature on everything to do with Beuel.

The association publishes two academic book series with studies on Beuel's history, which are largely inspired and promoted by him.

On June 20, 2004 the association was founded under its chairman Carl Jakob Bachem with the Dr. named after Otto Röpke (member of the Bonn City Council from 1975 to 1989). Röpke Prize awarded.
