Carl Joseph Geiger
Carl Joseph Geiger (born December 14, 1822 in Vienna ; † October 19, 1905 there ) was an Austrian painter , graphic artist and illustrator .
Geiger was a student at the art academy in his hometown. Through the mediation of his teachers he later became a pupil of the history painter Joseph von Führich .
Geiger found his focus in numerous historical and religious topics and was able to make a name for himself early on. In addition to independent work, commissioned work should also be mentioned here, including a. the design of a votive altar in St. Stephen's Cathedral , the large curtain of the Carltheater and the artistic design of several rooms in Palais Kinsky and the Vienna Stock Exchange .
Geiger also provided many templates (drawings) for woodcuts by other artists.
Carl Joseph Geiger died on October 19, 1905 in Vienna at the age of almost 83.
