Carl Kühner

Carl Friedrich Ludwig Kühner , sometimes also known as Karl Kühner , (born April 26, 1804 in Hildburghausen , † September 11, 1872 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German theologian, educator and publicist.

Life

After attending grammar school in Hildburghausen, he completed a theology and pedagogy studies from 1822 in 1826 in Jena and Leipzig and eventually advanced to a doctorate in philosophy. In 1833 he was seminar inspector and from 1836 rector of all schools in Saalfeld . In 1846 he became superintendent and pastor. He officiated as court preacher and educator of the ducal princesses.

In 1848 he turned down a call as director of the model school in Frankfurt am Main , but stayed in contact with the historian Georg Ludwig Kriegk , who was president of the Frankfurt School Reform Association at the time. In 1851 Kühner finally became director of the model school. His term of office lasted from December 1851 to Easter 1867. During this time he was co-author of the Robinson Crusoe edition by Gustav Adolf Gräbner, which was edited for the school . In 1852 he founded the general assembly of teachers in Frankfurt am Main, of which he was first chairman from 1855 to 1864. From 1854 he was a member of the Legislative Assembly of the Free City of Frankfurt .

Kühner wrote numerous literary and educational works, including short stories ( The Mysteries in the Castle of Eishausen , 1852), life pictures ( poet, knight and patriarch about Friedrich Rückert , 1869) as well as school and textbooks ( Thuringian Child Friend , since 1844). His book Jugendlektüre der Vorzeit , published in 1858, is considered to be one of the first contributions to the history of youth literature .
