Carl Kayser (cameraman)

Carl Kayser (born November 30, 1909 in England ; † 1984 ) was an Australian cameraman who was best known for his work in film and television in Australia between 1949 and 1969. These included contributions to productions such as The Devil Prescribed , Hell on Guam and SOS - Charter Boat .

life and career

Carl Kayser learned his trade as a camera operator first in Great Britain , later after the Second World War in Australia under the direction of cameramen such as Osmond Borradaile in Harry Watt's film Das große Treiben from 1946 and subsequently with Ross Wood. In 1949 he worked with his colleague Bert Nicholas as a duo on the romantic adventure film Rivals in the Jungle by director Charles Chauvel .

During the 1950s he worked as a cameraman in a number of Australian cinema productions such as No Strangers Here , Jedda , The Adventures of Capitaine Steve , Dust in the Sun and Yves Allégret's international film drama The Devil Prescribed, with Edmond O'Brien and Richard Basehart in the leading roles. At the beginning of the 1960s he worked for The Boys from Bungala by Jim Jeffrey and in 1962 for the directors Richard Goldstone and John Monks Jr. the war drama Hell auf Guam with the cast Jeffrey Hunter and Marshall Thompson .

In addition to his work for the cinema, Carl Kayser also worked for Australian television in the 1960s, in 1961 he was responsible for nineteen episodes of the western series Whiplash with Peter Graves and in 1969 all 26 episodes of the adventure series SOS - Charter Boat with Ty Hardin in the, produced by Ralph Smart Role of Moss Andrews. After the series ended, Carl Kayser retired. He died in 1984.
