Carl Löbbecke

Carl Löbbecke (born June 4, 1809 in Braunschweig ; † June 22, 1869 in Lippspringe ) was a German local politician , businessman , banker and co-owner of the Löbbecke & Co. banking house .

Life

Carl Löbbecke was born to Carl Friedrich Löbbecke (1768–1839) and Sophie Christine (née Hoffmeister, 1772–1851). From 1850 to 1859 he was mayor of the town of Blankenburg in the Harz district and, in this role, was responsible for the further tourist development of the Teufelsmauer in the Harz . So in 1853 he had the ridge path laid out on the cliffs, which is now also known as the Löbbeckestieg .

In 1852 he took part in the regional assembly of the Duchy of Braunschweig .

He left the foundation “In memory of April 25, 1856” to the city of Blankenburg (Harz), the rights of which were recognized by the Blankenburg district administration in the following month.

Honors

The Löbbecke rock on the Teufelsmauer is named after him, on which a cast iron memorial plaque is attached.
