Carl Oppenheimer
Carl Nathan Oppenheimer (born February 21, 1874 in Berlin ; died December 24, 1941 in Zeist , the Netherlands ) was a German biochemist .
Life
Carl Oppenheimer, a brother of Franz Oppenheimer and Paula Dehmel , studied chemistry and medicine in Berlin and Freiburg and received his doctorate in 1894 for Dr. phil. and in 1897 Dr. med. After working as an assistant in Erlangen , he joined the Animal Physiological Institute at the Agricultural University in Berlin in 1902 , where he was appointed honorary professor of biochemistry in 1908 (non-civil servant) .
In 1915 Oppenheimer became head of the department of national nutrition issues of the newly founded Central Purchasing Society (ZEG) in Berlin, and in 1917 head of the scientific department of GA Krause & Co. AG. After his release in 1936, he emigrated to the Netherlands in 1938 .
He was a member of the German Chemical Society and the Berlin Physiological Society . In 1932 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .
He was married to Hedwig Luise Troplowitz since 1904. One of the couple's sons, Chanan (Hans) Oppenheimer (1905–1978), later became a professor of subtropical horticulture in Israel.
