Carl Paasch

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Carl Rudolf Paasch , often also Karl Paasch , (born June 20, 1848 in Minden , † October 23, 1915 in Zurich ) was a German businessman and anti-Semitic publicist.

Life

After believing that he had been cheated on doing business in China, Paasch wrote a pamphlet in which he condemned the relations between the German ambassador in China, Max von Brandt , and business people and bankers. Paasch revealed the close relationships between Brandt and Clemens von Ketteler and Hermann Mandl and referred to the influence of the Jewish banker Gerson Bleichröder on the Foreign Office . Paasch saw himself as the victim of a (Jewish) conspiracy. His widespread pamphlets attracted considerable attention. Paasch was brought to court by the Foreign Office and declared insane. Chancellor Caprivi considered it necessary for Brandt to resign from the diplomatic service.

In this context, Paasch massively criticized the anti-Semitic members of the German Reichstag, in particular Adolf Stöcker and Max Liebermann von Sonnenberg , whom he described as "Jewish servants" and "Jewish henchmen".

In 1892 Paasch suggested in the Danzig anti-Semite mirror that the “simplest and most practical solution” to the “ Jewish question ” was to “kill” all Jews, but that was (unfortunately) not feasible; the second best "solution" should be deported to New Guinea .

Theodor Fontane described Paasch as crazy in a letter:

“The Jews can be glad that a rascal and a madman, Ahlwardt and Paasch, have taken anti-Semitism into their hands, the actual anti-Semitic preachers are themselves ... But they let everyone dance to their tune and even the caftan - Jews with curly hair , who make the path and footbridge unsafe here, show something of defiance and arrogance. You are also entitled to do so. "
