Carl Prüssing (born March 4, 1859 in Braunschweig , † August 16, 1912 in Hamburg ; full name: Johannes Ernst Carl Godhard Prüssing ) was a German chemist and manager in the cement industry.

Life

Carl Prüssing was the eldest son of Godhard Prüssing and Roma Prüssing geb. Pantzer. He attended the community school and grammar school in Holzminden . He studied chemistry in Munich, Berlin, Erlangen and Heidelberg. Together with his brother Paul Prüssing he co-founded the Corps Brunsviga Munich .

In early 1886 he became his father's assistant in the Saxon-Thuringian Portland cement factory Prüssing & Co. KGaA in Göschwitz near Jena , which was founded on April 15, 1886. During this time he introduced the press cake pump for testing cement for space stability, which he had developed.

After working in Göschwitz for a few years, Prüssing went to Brăila in Romania . Here he founded and ran a new cement factory. He returned from there to take over the technical management of the “Westfalia” cement factory in Beckum . He held this position until the spring of 1894. He was then director of the Portland cement factory in Hemmoor for 18 years until his death .

When the US customs laws brought the sale of German cement to a standstill, Carl Prüssing founded the German-American Portland Cement Works in La Salle in the US state of Illinois to maintain US customers .

After the death of his father Godhard Prüssing in the autumn of 1903, he and his brother Paul Prüssing became personally liable partners of the Saxon-Thuringian Portland-Cement-Factory Prüssing & Co. KGaA in Göschwitz. At the end of 1904, this was merged with the Mitteldeutsche Zementfabrik Prüssing & Co. in Schönebeck (Elbe) founded by his brother .
