Carl Reuleaux

Carl Reuleaux (born December 8, 1826 in Eschweiler - pump ; † May 21, 1902 in Munich ) was a German engineer and poet and older brother of the engineer Franz Reuleaux .

Life

After the early death of his father, who was a machine manufacturer, Carl Reuleaux moved to Koblenz with his mother and brothers. After finishing school, he took up the metallurgical trade. As a minor civil servant he went to the Sayner Hütte near Koblenz and later studied at the polytechnic school in Karlsruhe . There he became a member of the Germania Karlsruhe fraternity in the winter semester of 1852/53 . After completing his studies, he was hired by the Prussian War Ministry. Carl Reuleaux was involved in the construction of a new gun and ammunition foundry in Spandau , where he worked for years under Major Schür .

After the foundry was built and put into operation, Carl Reuleaux left Spandau and moved to Turin . Through the mediation of Count Camillo Cavour, he was appointed by the Italian Ministry of War to rebuild and redesign the local gun and ammunition foundry. Carl Reuleaux stayed in Turin for twelve years. In addition to the foundry, he played a leading role in the introduction of the Hoffmann ring furnaces in Italy . After that, Carl Reuleaux retired, moved to Munich and devoted himself mainly to poetry.
