Carl Seibel , also Karl Seibel (* 1844 in Cologne , † July 1877 on Capri and Naples) was a German painter of the Biedermeier .

Life

Seibels completed a business apprenticeship and initially worked as a roller engraver. At the age of 17 he began studying art at the Düsseldorf Art Academy and in 1863 was a pupil in Oswald Achenbach's landscape class . He traveled to Paris with Theodor Hagen in 1867 and took impressions of the open-air painting of the Barbizon School , especially Constant Troyon , and thus became a German representative of the Paysage intimate . From 1869 to 1875 he was a member of the artists' association Malkasten . His motif "landscape pictures with animals" changed over time to "animal picture in the landscape". In 1874 he stayed with Gregor von Bochmann in the Netherlands with Anton Mauve . His illness made him look for warm climes, but these were not good for his health either.
