Carl Stephan (politician)
Carl Stephan , also Karl (born November 16, 1863 in Harburg , † June 2, 1944 in Hildesheim ) was a German politician ( SPD ).
Life
After graduating from elementary school, Stephan completed an apprenticeship as a painter. In the following years he attended the advanced training school and the arts and crafts school. Since the 1890s he worked as an independent master painter in Hildesheim. In addition, from 1912 he was chairman of the supervisory board of the Hildesheim consumer association .
Stephan joined the SPD and became chairman of the party in Hildesheim in 1890. During the November Revolution he was chairman of the Hildesheim workers and soldiers council . In December 1918 he was sent as a delegate to the Reich Council Congress. From 1919 to 1924 he was a city councilor in Hildesheim. From 1919 to 1921 he was a member of the Prussian state constitutional assembly and from 1921 to 1933 he was a member of the Prussian state parliament .
