Carl Tanner (born October 13, 1888 in Buus ; † November 14, 1962 in Liestal ), ref., Von Hölstein , was a Swiss politician .

Career

From 1908 to 1913, Tanner studied agronomy and economics at the Eidgenössisches Polytechnikum or at the ETH Zurich and in Berlin . In 1911 he graduated as an engineer. from and in 1913 he received his doctorate as Dr. sc. techn. ETH. Later he was the head of the appraisal office of the Swiss Farmers' Association and from 1916 to 1919 head of the Federal Bread Office . From 1917 to 1922 Tanner was a free-spirited government councilor for finance in the canton of Basel-Landschaft . Among other things, Tanner founded the pension fund of the Basel-Landschaft state staff and was preparing a new tax law at the time. Furthermore, Tanner was from 1917 to 1922 board member of the Basellandschaftliche Kantonalbank . From 1919 to 1922 he was a member of the National Council and from 1922 to 1937 Director of the Federal Alcohol Administration and from 1933 to 1946 Chairman of the Board of Directors of Reederei AG, Basel. From 1933 he was the president of the Swiss cooperative for grain and animal feed . Tanner was also a colonel on the General Staff of Switzerland .

Carl Tanner was the son of Carl Tanner-Lüdin (1864–1927) and Lina Tanner-Lüdin (1861–1948) house parents of the Augst and Schillingsrain boys' educational institution. Emma Lina-Tanner (1889-1984) was his sister.
