Carl Theodor Asen

Carl Theodor Asen (born May 22, 1875 in Elberfeld , † July 26, 1927 in Bonn ) was a German portrait and genre painter from the Düsseldorf School .

Carl Theodor Asen, son of the master builder Johann Wilhelm Asen and his wife Mathilde, grew up in Elberfeld. His brothers were the future Berlin library councilor Johannes Asen (1882–1979) and the future Bonn architect Joseph Asen (1884–1968). After attending the humanistic grammar school , where the teachers noticed his artistic talent, Asen studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1891 to 1894/1895 . There he was a student of Heinrich Lauenstein , Hugo Crola and Adolf Schill .

From 1902 he lived as a painter in Bonn. As a member of the Bonn Artists' Association from 1914 , he helped shape the city's art life, especially in the 1920s. Some of his works, portraits and romantic landscape and village scenes from the Moselle around Treis and Karden can be seen in the Bonn City Museum .
