Carl Tomaselli the Elder

Carl Tomaselli the Elder (born October 7, 1809 in Vienna , † February 8, 1887 in Salzburg ) was the founder of Café Tomaselli .

Life

Tomaselli was the son of the court opera singer Giuseppe Tomaselli and his second wife Antonia Honikel. The actors Franz , Ignaz and Katharina were his siblings.

With his mother's dowry, a café was added to the family. Tomaselli trained as a confectioner and later took over this business. With effect from March 12, 1852 he acquired the Staiger coffee house on the Alter Markt from Josefa Staiger ; the purchase price was 36,000 guilders.

Tomaselli married Mathilde Fuchs (1814–1887) and had a son with her; Carl . He later continued to run Café Tomaselli .

Tomaselli died at the age of 77 on February 8, 1887 in Salzburg and found his final resting place (together with his wife) in the Salzburg municipal cemetery .
