Giuseppe Tomaselli (born January 29, 1758 in Rovereto , Trentino , † March 20, 1836 in Würzburg ) was an actor and singer ( tenor ).

Life

Tomaselli received a musical education with a focus on singing in Milan . With effect from October 1781 he got a job in the court chapel of Prince Archbishop Hieronymus von Colloredo . He soon made the acquaintance of Leopold Mozart and his family.

Between 1803 and 1807 he worked as a Tuscan court and chamber singer. At the age of 30 Tomaselli married Theresia Gschwendter. After the death of his wife, he soon married Antonia Honikel for a second time; a stepdaughter of the cafeteria Leopold Erich. With his second wife he had a daughter, Katharina and three sons, Carl , Franz and Ignaz .

Between 1796 and 1798 he directed the Salzburg City Theater together with Lorenz Hübner . During this time he not only achieved great success as a singer, but was also successful as a singing teacher.

After the secularization of the archbishopric of Salzburg, the prince-archbishop's court chapel remained in existence for some time. When this was also dissolved in February 1806, Tomaselli went to Vienna to the court of Austrian Emperor Franz I. In autumn 1833 he retired into private life and left Vienna. He lived with his family in Salzburg for a short time, but then settled in Würzburg. There he died seven weeks after his 78th birthday and found his final resting place in the Petersfriedhof in Salzburg.
