Carl Jørgen Wesenberg-Lund (born December 22, 1867 in Copenhagen , † November 12, 1955 ) was a Danish biologist and limnologist . Wesenberg was the mother's name, Lund that of the father.

Live and act

Wesenberg-Lund became a student in 1887 and a master's degree in zoology in 1893, as well as an assistant at the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural School in his hometown. With support from the state and the Carlsberg Foundation , he set up a laboratory for the study of freshwater biology in Hillerød, of which he became director. Wesenberg-Lund examined both plants and animals (mainly) of freshwater and published his results in the publication Plankton investigations of Danish lakes (1900-1908). The two works Biology of Freshwater Animals (1939) and Biology of Freshwater Insects (1943), which are by no means out of date and are therefore constantly being reprinted, were widely used in German-speaking countries thanks to translations and editing by Otto Storch .

Honors

In 1938 he was elected a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina . In 1942 he received the Naumann Medal . Since 1935 he was a corresponding member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences .
