Carl Wilhelm Eichel , also modernized Karl Wilhelm Eichel , (born March 12, 1812 in Leipzig , † December 5, 1874 in Bautzen ) was a German lawyer, local politician, novelist and translator.

Life

Eichel attended the Raths Free School in his native Leipzig. He later switched to the Thomas School there . He studied law at the University of Leipzig and in Friedrichs University Halle . After successfully completing his studies, Eichel entered the Saxon civil service and worked, among other things, as a recorder and (vice) actuary at the district and justice offices in Leipzig, Rochlitz, Colditz, Pegau, Stollberg and Grimma.

He later successfully ran for mayor of the town of Kamenz in Upper Lusatia, Saxony, where he settled down for the rest of his life. During his tenure, after several attempts, the Lessingturm was inaugurated on the Hutberg near Kamenz.

Since the mid-1830s, Eichel increasingly occupied himself with short stories, some of which he wrote himself. He also earned special services by translating well over 100 works from Swedish into German. These include books by Friederike Bremer, Emilie Flygare-Carlén, Countess Knorring and Count Pehr Sparre. Almost without exception, these works were published between 1838 and 1861 by FA Brockhaus and Chr. E. Kollmann in Leipzig.

Wilhelm Eichel died on a business trip that had taken him to Bautzen in the capital of Upper Lusatia at the beginning of December 1874.
