Carl Winkelmann
Carl Winkelmann (born December 14, 1865 in Ehndorf ; † September 28, 1924 in Bremen - Huchting ) was a German trade union official, politician ( SPD ) and Bremen senator.
biography
education and profession
Winkelmann was the son of a worker. He attended elementary school in Hamburg from 1871 to 1879 . There he completed an apprenticeship as a cooper until 1884 and then went on a hike . Until 1897 he worked as a cooper. In 1886 he became a member of the Böttcherverband and was then a leading functionary of the Hamburg branch until 1897. In June 1897 he moved to Bremen and was then full-time chairman of the main board of the Böttcherverband based in Bremen until his death. In 1919 and 1920 he was on leave from this position as a member of the Bremen government.
politics
Winkelmann, a member of the trade union since 1886 and then also of the SPD, was a member of the Bremen press commission from 1900 to 1906 and from 1908 to 1910. From 1913 to 1918 he ran for the German Reichstag in constituency 5 in the province of Schleswig-Holstein . When the SPD split up, he joined the MSPD in 1917 .
On November 6, 1918 he became a member of the Bremen Workers 'and Soldiers' Council and its action committee and was ousted by the radicals on December 21, 1918. From February to April 1919 he was a member of the provisional Bremen government under the President of the Government or Senate Karl Deichmann and then from April 10, 1919 to July 9, 1920 Senator; mainly responsible for the police.
Winkelmann was elected to the Bremen National Assembly on March 9, 1919 . He was no longer a member of the Bremen citizenship elected on June 6, 1920 . He was elected to the constituent German National Assembly for constituency 37 (Hamburg-Bremen-Stade) on January 19, 1919 . After that he was prevented from participating in political life due to a long-term illness.
