Carl von Hock

Carl Ferdinand Freiherr von Hock (born March 18, 1808 in Prague , † January 2, 1869 in Vienna ) was an economist and statesman in the Austrian Empire .

His parents were the businessman Josef Karl Hock (1774–1855) and his wife Karoline Rosenberg (1777–1825), a daughter of the businessman Salomon Rosenberg from Prague and his wife Josefa Tachau -

Life

Carl Hock studied philosophy in Prague. When he later embarked on the official career, he dealt mainly with economics and statistics. As head of section in the Ministry of Finance, Hock participated in the Austrian financial reforms and in the Austro-French trade treaty. He was ennobled in 1852 and raised to the rank of baron in 1859 . In 1865 he became a member of the State Council for the countries on this side of the Leitha .

He married Sophie von Appeltauer (1811–1874) in Vienna-Hietzing in 1835 , a daughter of District Administrator Karl von Appeltauer and his wife Aloisia Wolf . The couple had three children:

  • Johanna (born May 24, 1855)
  • Paul (October 20, 1857 - October 2, 1924), Austrian politician
