Carlina graeca is a plant from the genus Eberwurzen ( carlina ) in the family of Compositae (Asteraceae).

Carlina graeca is a perennial stem hemicryptophyte that usually reaches heights of 20 to 50, rarely 10 to 80 centimeters. The leaves are bare. The upper stem leaves are elongated-lanceolate and 5 to 5.5 times as long as they are wide. Their 4 to 6 pinnate lobes each have 2 to 3 thorns. Your terminal mandrel is 15 to 20 millimeters long and thin. The outer bracts are elongated-lanceolate and usually 40 to 50, rarely 30 to 60 millimeters long. Their side spines are 7 to 16 millimeters long, the terminal spines (15) 18 to 24 (31) millimeters. The mostly numerous cups have a diameter of about 15 millimeters.

The flowering period extends from July to October.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 18.

Occurrence

Carlina graeca occurs in the northeastern Mediterranean . It occurs in Greece, in the Aegean Sea, in Albania and in European and Asian Turkey. The species grows on fallow land, in Phrygana and in sparse forests and bushes. In Crete it can be found at altitudes from 0 to 1400 meters.
