Oleg Alexander Kerensky

Oleg Kerensky ( Russian Олег Александрович Керенский ; born April 3 . Jul / 16th April  1905 greg. In St. Petersburg ; † 25. June 1984 in Greater London ) was a Russian civil engineer.

Life

His parents were Alexander Fyodorowitsch Kerensky and Olga Lvovna, b. Baranovsky (1884-1975). After the Russian Civil War , his mother escaped to London with him and his younger brother Gleb Alexander (1907–1980). As a Kerensky, Olga initially had difficulties finding work, but then became Frank Soskice's secretary . Although the brothers did not speak English, they qualified to attend Northampton Engineering College in London by 1923, from which they graduated in 1927.

As an engineer, he first worked at Dorman Long in Middlesbrough , where he met Ralph Freeman while working on the Sydney Harbor Bridge .

He was involved in the design of the M2 motorway bridges, the Medway Viaducts , the Erskine Bridge over the Clyde and the Avonmouth Bridge for the M5. He was also involved in the Severn Bridge and West Gate Bridge . In 1951 he worked on the Dome of Discovery . The Milford Haven Bridge ( Cleddau Bridge ) collapsed in 1970.

In 1956 he became a partner at Freeman Fox Consulting Engineers . In 1970/71 he was President of the Institution of Structural Engineers and won its gold medal in 1977. He played the role of his grandfather in the 1981 film Reds . In 1964 he became a CBE and in 1970 a Fellow of the Royal Society.

He later separated from his first wife, Nathalie Bely, who was interested in classical ballet. Her son, Oleg Olegovich Kerensky (born January 9, 1930 in London, † July 9, 1993 in New York City) originally wanted to go into politics like his grandfather, but then became a well-known ballet critic. He later married Dorothy (1908–1985).

Oleg Alexander Kerensky is buried next to his father in Putney Vale Cemetery at Wimbledon . Next to it are his brother and mother.

In 1977 he received the Gold Medal of the Institution of Structural Engineers and in 1979 the International Award of Merit in Structural Engineering .
