Carling is the name of a brand of lager beer in Canada , Australia , South Africa and the United Kingdom . The owner of the beer brand is the Molson Coors Brewing Company .

history

In 1840 Thomas Carling founded a small brewery in London , Ontario , Canada . After his death, his sons John and William took over the company and renamed it in W & J Carling Brewing Co. to. John Carling became a nationally known figure in business and politics and was knighted in 1893 . After his death in 1911, Carling changed hands several times until the Canadian brewery Molson acquired the company in 1989.

In 1999 Carling sold 1 billion pints in the UK , breaking the record at the time. Since then, Carling has been the top selling lager in the UK.

Carling has long been the main sponsor of the two Glasgow football clubs, Glasgow Rangers and Celtic Glasgow . In addition, Carling was a sponsor of the English League Cup and the Premier League from 2003 to 2012 .

In the 1970s, the Carling Brewery also appeared as a sponsor in international motorsport. For example, Roy Woods Racing was supported in the 1973 CanAm season and BMW Team Belgium in the 1978 World Championship.
