Carlo Di Carlo

Carlo Di Carlo (born June 18, 1938 in Bologna , † March 18, 2016 in Rome ) was an Italian documentary filmmaker .

Life

Carlo Di Carlo began his work in the field of film as a critic and editor of the "Film Selezione", in which he came to prominence as a film essayist (with essays on Michelangelo Antonioni, among others ). From 1961 he devoted himself to the staging of short films and numerous documentaries, some of which were awarded at festivals and achieved above-average awareness, such as La menzogna di Marzabotto and Dove va la Germania? Again and again he approached his favorite directors Antonioni and Pasolini in these works.

After assisting Antonioni, Pier Paolo Pasolini and Ugo Gregoretti , Di Carlo directed medium-length films for German television between 1971 and 1975; In 1987 he did the same (with Cinque storie inquietanti , for which he also wrote the screenplay) in Italy. Ten years earlier he had presented his only full-length feature film, the visually stunning Per questa notte , based on a novel by Juan Carlos Onetti .
