Carlos Carrera
Carlos Carrera , actually Luis Carlos Carrera González , (born August 18, 1962 in Mexico City ) is a Mexican film director and animator .
Life
Carrera was already interested in drawing and film as a child and made his first animated films on Super 8 at the age of twelve . He first studied communication science at the Universidad Iberoamericana and later film directing at the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica . He began his directing career with animated short films, including El hijo pródigo (1984), Weed does not go away (1988), Amada (1990) and Los mejores deseos (1991). His feature film directorial debut was La mujer de Benjamín in 1991 , for which he won a Premio Ariel for Best Film Debut in 1992 and was nominated in four other categories. For his short animated film El héroe , in which a man tries to prevent a young woman from committing suicide in a subway station, which was released in 1994, Carrera was awarded the Palme d'Or in 1994 for the best short film at the Cannes International Film Festival .
Carreras Drama Sin remitente that those based on revenge duel of two neighbors on the subject, has walked 1,995 competing for the Golden Lion of the International Film Festival of Venice and won a 1996 Ariel Award in the category Best Film . The Temptation of Padre Amaro , a film adaptation of José Maria Eça de Queiroz 's novel The Crime of Father Amaro , won a Goya in the category Best Foreign Film in Spanish in 2002 and an Oscar ( Best Foreign Language Film ) and an Oscar in 2003 Golden Globe ( Best Foreign Language Film ) nominated. The feature film about a young priest who lost his way caused a scandal, especially in the Catholic Church, and was a great box-office success in Mexico. In The Paradise of the Murderers , published in 2009, Carrera addressed the feminicides in Ciudad Juárez .
Carrera's works often have in common that they address the dark side of human existence and explore the depths of human loneliness.
