Carlos Martín Fajardo

Carlos Martín Fajardo (born January 16, 1914 in Chiquinquirá , † 2008 in Tarragona ) was a Colombian poet, Romanist and Hispanic who worked in the Netherlands.

life and work

Carlos Martín Fajardo (known as Carlos Martín ) was the high school director in Zipaquirá , where Gabriel García Márquez was one of his students from 1942 to 1946. Together with Jorge Rojas and others he belonged to the group of poets "Piedra y Cielo".

He studied at the Pontifical University of Xaveriana and received his doctorate in law in 1947 with the thesis Introducción al estudio de las obligaciones naturales .

Martín was a lecturer (lecturer) from 1961 and from 1980 until his retirement in 1982 full professor of Spanish American literature at the University of Utrecht . He was a literary critic on a Dutch radio show for 15 years.

Martín was a corresponding member of the Academia Venezolana de la Lengua , whose "Premio Lucila Palacios" he had received. He was the recipient of the Aurelio Arturo Prize .
