Carlos Monsiváis

Carlos Monsiváis (born May 4, 1938 in Mexico City , † June 19, 2010 ibid) was a Mexican journalist , columnist , essayist , critic and historian .

Life

Monsiváis studied economics and philosophy at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México . His works, some of them marked by an ironic undertone, show a deep understanding of the roots and development of the culture of the Mexican people.

He was mainly used in the newspaper El Universal operates, but also wrote political columns for other leading newspapers. He was considered the opinion leader of the progressive thinking intellectuals of Mexico.
