Carlos Scanavino

Carlos Scanavino , full name Carlos A. Scanavino Villavicenio , (born March 11, 1964 in Paysandú ) is a Uruguayan swimmer .

The 1.87 meter tall Scanavino, for which a competition weight of 80 kg is recorded, represented his home country at the South American Games in 1982 . There he won gold four times in the 100-meter, 200-meter, 400-meter and 1500-meter freestyle courses. There were also three silver medals with the two freestyle relays over the 100-meter and 200-meter courses and with the 4 × 100-meter individual relay relay. He also took part in the Pan American Games four times in the course of his career . When he first took part in the 1979 Games , he went empty-handed in terms of podium finishes. In 1983 he swam the bronze medal over the 1,500 meter freestyle distance. The following year he was part of the Uruguayan squad at the Olympic Games for the first time . At the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles , he placed 16th in the 200-meter freestyle competition. He finished 17th in the 400-meter freestyle competition, while it was 10th in the 1,500-meter freestyle and 10th in the 100-meter butterfly position 32 in the final ranking was enough. At his third Pan American Games in 1987 , he finished silver in the 200 meter freestyle. The following year he took again to the time in Seoul discharged Olympics in part. There he placed 39th over 100 meters freestyle, 19th place over 200 meters freestyle and 12th place for the 400-meter freestyle course. At the South American Games in Peru in 1990 , he won three single gold medals over the 100-meter, 200-meter and 400-meter freestyle distance and also won a fourth gold medal in the 4 × 200-meter freestyle relay, Silver with the 4 × 100-meter medley relay and bronze with the 4 × 100-meter freestyle relay. His fourth and final start at the Pan American Games followed in 1991 .

Carlos Scanavino is the father of the Olympian Antonella Scanavino (* 1992), who competed in the swimming competitions of the 2008 Games.
