Carmelita Geraghty
Carmelita Geraghty (born March 21, 1901 in Rushville , Indiana , † July 7, 1966 in New York City ) was an American film actress of the silent film - and early sound film era .
Live and act
She was the daughter of screenwriter Thomas J. Geraghty (1883-1945) and Ethel Geraghty (1884-1932). Her siblings were Sheila Gladys (1904–1968), Gerald (1906–1954) and Maurice (1908–1987).
In her early days in Hollywood, she worked as a script girl at Paramount Pictures until she turned to acting. At the beginning of her film career, she starred in various boxer films, such as High Speed (1924) with Herbert Rawlinson and in Winning His Way (1924), Fight and Win (1924), All's Swell on the Ocean (1924) and The Title Holder ( 1924) alongside heavyweight boxer Jack Dempsey . In 1924 she was selected as a promising young star among the WAMPAS Baby Stars of the Year. Directed by Alfred Hitchcock , she filmed Maze of Passion in 1925 in which she took on the role of Jill Cheyne. Other films followed until she made her last film, Phantom of Santa Fe , in 1936 .
On May 6, 1934, she married the screenwriter and producer Carey Wilson . Her bridesmaid was the film actress Jean Harlow . She was married to Wilson until his death in 1962. In later years she devoted herself increasingly to painting.
She died after a heart attack at the Lombardy Hotel in New York City and was buried in Hollywood Forever Cemetery .
