Carmen Johannis, Romanian Carmen Iohannis , (born November 2, 1960 as Carmen Georgeta Lăzurcă ) is the wife of the Romanian President Klaus Johannis .

Life and family

Carmen Johannis is an English teacher at the 1990 National High School " Gheorghe Lazar " in Sibiu operates.

She comes from a family of Romanian Greek Catholic denomination in Sântu , a village near Reghin in Mureș County . During her studies, at the age of 23, she met her future husband, Klaus Johannis, on a mountain tour with a group of friends. During the period when the Romanian Greek Catholic Church was banned by the communist regime , Carmen and Klaus Johannis took part in secret masses celebrated by Archpriest Pompeiu Onofreiu in his house on Strada Șelarilor (Sattlerstrasse). The couple married in 1989 and are childless.

Klaus Johannis called his wife the most important confidante in political matters. It was a reason for him to stay in Romania when, after the Romanian Revolution of 1989, the vast majority of Romanian Germans left the country, including Johannis' parents.

Carmen Johannis is a declared admirer of the Romanian royal family and the wife of former US President Barack Obama , Michelle .
