The carnitine O-palmitoyltransferase 2 is an enzyme , specifically, a transferase which the gene CPT2 is encoded. It is a protein from the cell nucleus that was transported to the inner membrane of a mitochondrion . There the enzyme oxidizes long fatty acids together with carnitine palmitoyl transferase 1 . It is part of a system around the enzymes of carnitine-palmitoyltransferase ( carnitine-acyltransferase system ), namely the two carnitine-palmitoyltransferases, the acyl-CoA synthetase and the carnitine / acylcarnitine translocase: In the form of acyl-coenzyme A , When carnitine combines to form acyl-carnitine, fatty acids are transported into the mitochondrion, where they are subject to β-oxidation .
