Caro Josée (born February 24, 1958 in Gießen ; actually Caro Mizerski , born as José Caro Tollenaar ) is a German singer whose music , in part ballad-like, is somewhere between blues, jazz and soul. In 1978 she received the German Record Prize for her debut Caro & The JCT Band - It's Nothing but Higher .

life and career

José Caro Tollenaar, her name until she married a lawyer, was born on February 24, 1958 in Giessen as the daughter of a Dutch prisoner of war and interpreter who married a German tax officer after the war and played the banjo and accordion in clubs. She was shaped very early by the musical parental home. At the age of 15 she moved to her sister in Archer City (Texas) for a year , where she got to know the original North American music. Back in Giessen she made the acquaintance of the skiffle band Leinemann . The band member Lonzo Westphal suggested that she move to Hamburg and offered her to live with the band. Despite strong objections from her family, Caro then went to Hamburg, where she initially worked as a waitress . She often visited the music bars “Logo” and “ Onkel Pö ”. It wasn't long before she became part of the Pö house band as a musician. She thus played alongside Abi Wallenstein and Peter Urban . She also joined the band "Pussy" (which later became her JCT Band), got her first record deal and sold 11,200 copies. The first album with the JCT Band was released in 1977. Her ballad-like version of the Rolling Stones' song Child of the Moon, which had rarely been covered until then, became known . In 1978 Caro and her band won the German Record Prize (forerunner of ECHO ) for the debut LP It's Nothing but Higher in the category “Best Newcomer National”. In 1978 she broke up the JCT band to devote herself to her solo career. In 1980 her album Caro was released, on the cover of which she was depicted quite freely.

Caro got the opportunity to work in the television film Das Traumauto by Schimanski's inventor Hajo Gies . She played a singer who threatens to break the heart of a fan with her vehement bitchiness. She also recorded the soundtrack under the name "Josy T." (Josy Tollenaar). While this record was praised by Bravo , Caro was dissatisfied and later regretted having played in the film.

Caro's last work in the 1990s was the maxi single Volcano, which she recorded as part of the DFB campaign “We are the fans”. When the desired success did not materialize, she temporarily withdrew from the stage. She got to know the Hamburg media lawyer Ulrich Mizerski. The two married and had two children.

Together with her Australian colleague Lisa Lagoda and NDR music editor and presenter Peter Urban , Caro founded the formation CaroLISA in 1999. In the opening act of the Scorpions (Acoustica Tour) as well as Robert Cray's , the band played in front of a large audience.

From 2004 Caro was on stage with Jean-Jacques Kravetz , Pascal Kravetz , Julien Kravetz, Martin Scheffler and Arnd Geise. The 2005 album was titled Eternity .

After the success of Eternity , Caro worked with the Sinti jazz guitarists Manusch Weiss and Enzo Weiss in 2010 and 2011 . This resulted in the album Turning Point in 2012 , which was released under the name Caro Josée . For this album she was awarded the ECHO Jazz 2013 in the category “Best Female Singer”.

On the 2015 album Summer's Ease , Caro worked with composer and guitarist Patrick Pagels.
