Carola Wedel

Carola Wedel (born October 23, 1953 in Lörrach ) is a German filmmaker , editor , presenter and author .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1972, Carola Wedel studied German, history, art history, archeology, philosophy and theater studies at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen and the Freie Universität Berlin. In 1978 she completed her studies with a master's degree in the subjects of modern German literary and art history, as well as theater and media studies. During this time she was already working as an assistant director for theater and film productions, among others for Peter Zadek , Rudolf Noelte , Peter Stein , Daniel Christoff, Alfons Weidenmann and Walter Bockmayer .

She has worked as a journalist since 1975: first for print media such as Nürnberger Nachrichten , Zitty or Skyscraper ; then from 1978 freelance radio author for the SFB , WDR and SDR . In 1984 she began working as a television editor at the SFB, where she worked until 1986 as a freelance television editor and presenter of the newly designed program Berliner Platz , the first grassroots talk show with audience participation.

Between 1986 and 1987 she directed and moderated the television program Das Literäre Café from the Berlin Café Einstein. Then she was the moderator of MUMM , the weekly culture magazine of the SFB, editor for the Berlinale reporting in the third program (co-production with the WDR), head of the 'Cultural Features' department in the SFB and, after German reunification, editor of the first joint cultural TV productions of the ARD together with the DFF , the television of the GDR.

In 1990 she switched to ZDF , first as a culture presenter in heute-journal , then as presenter and editor of the culture magazine aspekte . In 1991 she received a teaching position at the University of Siegen and from 1992 built up the cultural department in the ZDF morning magazine from Berlin. Carola Wedel has been working as a cultural correspondent for programs like heute und heute-journal since 1994 . As the initiator of the media partnership between ZDF / 3sat and the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation , Carola Wedel produced numerous reports and documentaries accompanying the reconstruction of the Museum Island . The long-term documentation started in 2001 is entitled “Museum Island Project of the Century”. She is also the editor and author of several books.
