Caroline Faye Diop
Caroline Faye Diop (born July 11, 1923 in Foundiougne , † July 28, 1992 in Dakar ) was a Senegalese feminist politician.
Life
After studying at a high school for girls in Rufisque , she became a teacher in Louga in 1945 . In 1958 she was involved in the establishment of the Union progressiste sénégalaise (which has been called Parti Socialiste since 1976 ).
In 1963 she was the first elected female member of the Assemblée nationale du Sénégal and in 1978/79 and 1981 to 1983 Minister in Habib Thiam's cabinet . During her tenure, she promoted the women's movement, families and health care.
family
Her husband Demba Diop , Minister for Youth and Sport under President Léopold Sédar Senghor , was assassinated in 1967. Her father Diène Faye was a Serer from Joal , the birthplace of Senghor, and an activist of the French Socialists.
