Karoline Ulrike Amalie of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld (* 19 October 1753 in Coburg , † 1. October 1829 ibid) was a Princess of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld and last Dechantin in Imperial free secular Reichsstift of Gandersheim .

Life

Karoline Ulrike was a daughter of Duke Ernst Friedrich von Sachsen-Coburg-Saalfeld (1724–1800) from his marriage to Sophie Antonia (1724–1802), daughter of Duke Ferdinand Albrecht II of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel .

The princess entered Gandersheim Abbey in 1768 at the age of 14 and was unanimously elected dean by the Chapter in 1795. So she was considered the presumptive abbess and successor to Auguste Dorothea von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel .

After the secularization and abolition of the monastery by the Westphalian authorities in 1802, Karoline was compensated for the loss of office as 49th abbess, in addition to an annual pension, with the monastery plenary , the famous Carolingian Gandersheim Gospel and the library of the monastery. She took this valuable art treasure back to her home town, where it became part of the Coburg State Library. The Gandersheim Gospels are now part of the art collections of the Veste Coburg .

She was buried in the Morizkirche in Coburg .
