Caroline Walter

Caroline Walter is a German journalist . From 1999 to 2019 she was a permanent writer for the ARD television magazineKontraste ”. In September 2019 she switched to the ARD magazine Panorama as editor .

Life

Walter, born in Bavaria, studied journalism , German and political science at the Free University of Berlin and graduated in 1995 with a Magister Artium . She has been working as a television journalist since 1996, a. a. for the culture magazine " Aspects " ( ZDF ). Since 1999 she has worked for the ARD political magazine “Kontraste” at the Berlin-Brandenburg broadcasting company . In September 2019 she switched to the ARD magazine PANORAMA as an editor. Her focus is on investigative reports in the fields of health, right-wing extremism and asylum policy.

In 2010 she researched the pharmaceutical industry and published her results in the book Patient in Sight . In 2012 she made a self-experiment in an asylum shelter and lived under the same conditions as the refugees. Since then she has dealt continuously with refugee policy. As early as 2013, in the program Menschen bei Maischberger, she demanded that one should seriously deal with “fear of foreigners”. In 2017 she was a member of the jury for the German Human Rights Film Award . In July 2018, she exposed the scandal surrounding the smuggling of medicines from Greece to Germany and the trade in these medicines by the Brandenburg company Lunapharm. The reporting led to the resignation of the Brandenburg Minister for Labor, Social Affairs, Health, Women and Family, Diana Golze , in August 2018 .

In July 2019, her report in contrasts on statements by Pegida supporters in Dresden about the murder of Walter Lübcke caused a sensation and numerous reactions from politicians and public prosecutor's investigations.
