Music style and lyrics

The band's style on Carving out the Eyes of God is strongly reminiscent of Celtic Frost , but also of Motörhead , Venom , Hellhammer and Morbid Angel ; Bands like Venom and Celtic Frost are also cited as influences by the band themselves. The vocals move between the black metal-typical, scratchy, and the death-metal-typical growling .

The title is based on the idea that God created the world in six days and rested on the seventh day; Ben Falgoust read a short story by Clive Barker in which God did not rest on the seventh day, but rather, clouded and tired, created everything evil and hideous. With that, everything bad would be just as just as everything good and would be in balance. This also shows that if there should be a God, he is flawed.

Reviews

Justin M. Norton of About.com recommended Carving out the Eyes of God to listeners with a penchant for dirty and direct Metal and praised Ben Falgoust for "one of the finest vocal performances in an already impressive extreme metal career". His colleague Chad Bowar counted it among the best albums of the year. For Jackie Smit of Chronicles of Chaos , the album surpasses its predecessor, A Haunting Curse . Thrash Hits ' Tom Gibbons described Carving out the Eyes of God as the metal equivalent of Hurricane Katrina , which destroyed Goatwhores hometown New Orleans . Scott Alisoglu of Blabbermouth.net wrote that this would "easily become one of the purest metal albums of 2009", quoted by the band as "one of the purest metal albums of 2009". Goz from GASPetc.com did n't find the band's previous releases particularly impressive, whereas they were excellent live. Carving out the Eyes of God is versatile enough not to become monotonous and boring in the middle. Leonard Pierce of The AV Club is one carving out the Eyes of God best of the 30 albums of the decade; Ben Falgoust's vocals and lyrics are highly exaggerated and Sammy Duet's guitars sound “wilder than ever. Both a culmination and a progression, Goatwhore reminds listeners why metal has a terrifying reputation. "
