Casper (cat)
Casper (* around 1997, † 14. January 2010 ) was a in the UK living cat , who through his journeys by bus worldwide attention gained.
Life
Casper was referred to the carer Susan Find in December 2002 by an animal rescue station in Dorchester in the south-west of England's county of Dorset . At the time, the black and white cat was five to ten years old and had previously lived in the ward for ten months. Its previous owners are unknown.
Casper first lived in a villa in Weymouth with Susan Find, her second husband and six other cats. Find named it after the ghost from the movie of the same name because it disappeared so often. Despite countermeasures, he kept leaving the house, moving far away from it and showing no fear of traffic or strangers. After the family moved to Frome , Somerset , he became a regular visitor to the local doctor's office and pharmacy , where after some time he was given his own chair in the waiting area.
In 2006, Finding went to St Budeaux in Plymouth with Casper . She moved into a house near a bus stop so that she could easily get to work in a retirement home. It was only after three years that she found out that Casper was also a daily passenger on the bus. He ascended every morning around 10am a bus line 3, sat down on a seat and ran from the house of its owner in St Budeaux to the terminus and back until it after about 11 miles (18 km) got out again in front of his home. He was often supported by the bus drivers , who made sure that he did not get out too early. After finding out about it, she turned to the Plymuth regional newspaper The Herald , which first reported about Casper in 2009. Other newspapers and websites picked up the story, and BBC News aired a feature about him. Casper also became known internationally.
On the morning of January 14, 2010, Casper died in his owner's house shortly after he was hit by a taxi driver on the way to the bus . His death again triggered a lot of media coverage, complaining that the driver had left the scene of the accident with his vehicle and had not taken care of the injured animal.
In August 2010, published the book Susan Find Casper the commuting cat ( Casper the commuter -cat ) published by Simon & Schuster . It has been translated into several languages including German, Dutch, Portuguese, Italian and Chinese.
